16 boys teams and 16 girls teams play in Maine's Class A South basketball region in 2026-27. The top 11 boys teams and top 11 girls teams by Heal points reach the regional tournament.

How this region is seeded
Seeds come from Heal points. A Class A South team earns 40 points for a win over a Class A team, 38 over Class B, 36 over Class C, 34 over Class D and 32 over Class S, divided by games on its schedule. The tournament index then rewards wins over teams that win a lot themselves. See the full method with a worked example.
Class A schools have 670 or more students (the MPA's enrollment band for the 2025-27 cycle). Countable games run Thu Dec 3, 2026 through Thu Feb 4, 2027; the preliminary round is Feb 9-10, 2027, regional games Feb 12-20, 2027, and state finals Feb 26-27, 2027.
